Beginning the Journey

As a parent of a new baby or young child, we would like to invite you to take part in our first spiritual marker entitled “Beginning the Journey”. The Family Ministry at First Baptist Conyers has created a strategy that will hopefully make a greater impact on our families. This strategy allows the church to come along side and support parents as they raise their family. Through this process, our goal is simple. As children become adults, they will possess a Biblical worldview and exhibit leadership skills that will allow them to make a significant impact for the cause of Christ. We know that this is a very exciting time for your family. We want you to know that we as a church are here to support you through these early years of parenting. “Beginning the Journey” is the first step along this path. As you begin this process, you will be asked to participate in 3 Strategic Assignments.

Assignment 1: LISTEN

It is our desire to come along beside you, the parent, and be your strongest supporter and guide as you raise your child. We have created several podcasts for you that we feel will truly be of help to you during these early years of parenting. Listen to the three podcasts that we have prepared for you and prepare a list of Family Values as described in the podcasts.

Podcast 1

Bringing home a new baby is a very exciting time filled with many surprises.

This message will encourage you through those very first months.

Podcast 2

Marriage is the most important relationship in your family. Allowing time to strengthen your marriage will have a positive influence on your children.

Podcast 3

What your child learns during these early years will determine what kind of adult he/she becomes. This message will encourage you to begin thinking about the values and habits that you can begin to teach your child.

Assignment 2: LEARN

After listening to the podcasts, you will attend an orientation during one of our Sunday morning services. During this time, we will introduce you to the “Train Station”, which is our Nursery and Preschool Department, where we will talk about our policies and procedures. Please remember to bring your list of values with you to the orientation. During this time, you will also be given information on how to register for the Parent Commitment Celebration. Unless you are a single parent, it is very important that you and your spouse attend this orientation.

** The first 2 assignments must be completed before you can participate in the Parent Commitment Celebration.

Assignment 3: CELEBRATE

Congratulations! Now that you have completed Assignments 1 & 2, it is time to participate in our celebration! God has given you a precious gift and there is definitely a reason to celebrate.

This event is a special time when parents share with family and friends their commitment to raise their family in a Godly home. This will also be a time when they can share values that are important to them and ask for support as they raise their families. Information on the Parent Commitment Celebration will be available at orientation in the Fall.
